Scenario: You are working in a school or organization where you see several opportunities to improve an aspect of the organization that could support their mission. Since you are taking this class and learning about leading change, you decide to focus on one problem area that could help the school or organization to improve and write a strategy/action plan that will lead to planning for organizational changes in subsequent weeks in this course.

 

*Note: The problem you identify for this week’s assignment should be a problem/change that is significant enough to continue to plan for throughout the course. The problem/change that you choose should be related to the mission and vision of your organization and if addressed through your planning in this course, could improve the outcomes of your school or organization.

 

Part 1: Your plan should discuss contextual information to describe your school or organization. Discuss the following in narrative format:

 

Describe the organization and your role in the organization Describe the mission and vision of the organization

 

Discuss the change your feel needs to occur to improve your school or organization or a problem you feel needs to be solved

 

Part 2: Create a chart similar to the one provided in Step One of the text (Spiro, 2011, p. 20) to determine possible strategies and actions that could address the problem. Discuss a minimum of three strategies and two actions per strategy (total of six actions). Additionally, include who would be responsible for specific actions, a general timeline, and ideas for tangible evidence and measurable results for each action.

 

This assignment should be two- to four- pages in length and use APA format for formatting, in-text citations, and references. Include an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Use at least two sources beyond the textbook, with at least one source being peer-reviewed.

As we learned this week, it is critical to engage a diverse range of key players involved in planning for change in an organization or school. For this assignment, you will create a collaborative planner that models the planner available in Step Six on pages 109-112 of the textbook. For each of the 11 strategy areas (see shaded areas in the chart below for the first several examples), provide a description of your evidence or how you plan to address each area in your plan. The Collaborative Planner is intended to assist in planning for meeting with your stakeholders to implement and proceed with your change efforts.

 

The description of your evidence should be written in narrative format in full sentences (not bulleted points) and should provide detailed evidence for how you will address each area. Evidence should thoroughly explain how you will address each area and should reflect best practices for collaboration and stakeholder empowerment. Using the Scale and Sustainability Score sheet found in Step Seven of the text, create a report that includes the following components:

Program/practices for scale and sustainability

Non-negotiable elements of the program/practice

Scale and sustainability scores

The development of scale and sustainability strategies for the change strategy

Your report should include:

Introduction: Include an introduction to the purpose and context of your report.

 

Part 1: Assess your readiness to plan and implement scale and sustainability. In this section of your paper, discuss your ability to identify core program elements and make choices to determine the most effective or high priority components to be scaled and sustained.

 

Part 2: Describe the program or practice resulting from your change strategy that you would like to scale and sustain. Explain what it is and why it is important. Explain how you know it is a high quality program and valued by stakeholders. What results do you anticipate?

 

Part 3: Discuss the nonnegotiable elements of the program or practice being considered.

Part 4: Score yourself on the scale score sheet (you do not need to include the actual score sheet) and report your results.

 

Discuss several areas of strength and need based on your results.

 

Part 5: Score yourself on the sustainability score sheet (you do not need to include the actual score sheet) and report your results. Discuss several areas of strength and need based on your results.

 

Part 6: Based on your areas of need as determined in Steps Four and Five, generate effective strategies for scaling and sustaining the program or practice of the change strategy. Discuss what needs to be planned and implemented for successful scale and sustainability. Please be sure to use research-based practices (as discussed in the text and readings) in your plan.

 

Conclusion: Reflect on your growth and development as a change agent throughout the course. How can your latest skills and knowledge benefit a school or organization? What areas of leadership would you like to learn about to continuously improve your abilities to be a change agent?
