Completing the Annotated Bibliography. Due by Day 7. This week you’ll complete your annotated bibliography by locating one eBook that is related to your research question and writing an APA reference and annotation for it. You’ll also take the next step in the research process by converting your research question into a thesis statement.

Before you begin, be sure to read Module 4 in your textbook, and watch the Using Ebrary to Find e-books tutorial.

To get started, locate the keywords that you developed in week three. You will use these keywords to help you find an eBook that is related to your research question. For this assignment, you will use the Ashford Library’s Findit@AU databases. Be sure to choose the “eBooks” tab before you search.

After you have your eBook, you are ready to create the APA references and annotations for your sources in the Completing the Annotated Bibliography template (available in the classroom). When writing your APA references for your sources, you can refer to the Ashford Writing Center’s Common APA Reference and Citation Models for guidance.

Copy and paste the references and annotations for your two scholarly journal articles from week three and your two websites from week four into your paper. Check your instructor’s feedback on previous assignments to see if there any corrections that you need to make. If you are not sure how to see your instructor’s feedback, this HelpNow! video will show you. Be sure to make any changes or corrections that your instructor has indicated.

Now, you are ready to convert your research question into a thesis statement. Watch the Ashford Writing Center’s Thesis Statement Tutorial. Then, use the “Turning Your Research Question into a Thesis Statement” worksheet to help you create your thesis statement. Copy and paste your thesis statement into the Completing Your Annotated Bibliography, Week Five template. You can also look at the sample annotated bibliography for guidance.

As you build your annotated bibliography in weeks three, four, and five, you are encouraged to submit your work to the Ashford Writing Center for feedback. The Writing Center staff can help you identify formatting, grammar, and other common writing issues in your work and give your ideas for ways to fix them. The Writing Center staff is available by email or by chat.

Congratulations on completing your annotated bibliography! You have chosen a topic, developed a research question, identified keywords, located three different types of sources related to your topic, created APA references, written annotations, built an annotated bibliography and converted your research question into a thesis statement! them. By now, your annotated bibliography has started taking shape and you’ll just be adding to the work that you did last week.

Before you begin, be sure to read Module 3 in your textbook and Google’s All Tips & Tricks. It can often be difficult to locate all of the information that you need to evaluate the credibility and reliability of web pages. Watch Web Pages: Determining Authority and Web Pages: Determining Currency to help you.

To get started, locate the keywords that you developed last week. You will use these keywords to help you find two websites that are related to your research question. For this assignment, you will use a search engine like Google, Bing, or Duck Duck Go, not the Ashford Library databases to find your sources.

After you have your web pages, you are ready to create the APA references and annotations for your sources in the Locating Web Pages template (available in the classroom). When writing your APA references for your sources, you can refer to the Ashford Writing Center’s Common APA Reference and Citation Models for guidance.

Finally, copy and paste the references and annotations for your two scholarly journal articles from week 3 into your paper. Writing Your Research Question. Due by Day 7. This week you’re going to take a few more steps towards creating an annotated bibliography by finalizing your research topic and writing your research question.

Read Module 1 of your textbook, and watch Picking Your Topic IS Research.

Last week, you were asked to start thinking about the topic you’d like to choose for your annotated bibliography. You can refer to the list of possible research topics if you need help thinking of a topic. After reading Module 1 of your textbook and watching Picking Your Topic IS Research, you learned that you should do some research on the topics that you are considering to learn more about your topic and check out the sources that are available. If you haven’t yet done any background research on the topics you are considering, you should do that now. This is the point in the research process when it is acceptable to use Wikipedia or other general reference works like encyclopedias and almanacs. 4 Easy Steps to Using the Ashford Library for Background Research can help you get started.

Choosing your research topic is the next step. Remember that you will be working with this topic for the rest of this class, so you should choose something that you find interesting. It is recommended that you choose a topic you would like to investigate related to your major.

The next step is to do some brainstorming about your topic. Brainstorming will help you think about your topic from different angles and consider different aspects of your topic. There are a number of different brainstorming methods, like asking questions about your topic, outlining, and creating concept maps using websites like bubble.us and Mindmeister. You can use any of these tools, or you can just put pencil to paper and let the ideas flow.

The last step this week is to consider and write your research questions and reflect on the process. The Writing Your Research Question worksheet (available in the classroom) will lead you through the process of creating research questions. You must create at least three research questions that are open-ended; address a controversy, issue, or problem; and address your topic in a way that you can take a stand. Writing an open-ended question is sometimes a challenge so take a look at the How to Ask an Open-Ended Question handout before you get started.

Then, you will reflect on the process of doing background research and refining your topic.
